Can I get a University discount?
University discount is primarily meant for Stata users who teach students or who themselves are students. Universities, university hospitals, and colleges receive university discount. Customers from university hospitals need to provide the name of the university to which the hospital is affiliated.
In addition to university discount, it is possible for universities to order Stata licenses for students at extra discounted prices. Some universities have signed special Stata Prof+ Plan agreements (former GradPlan agreements) with Metrika that allow them to buy Stata at special discounted prices. The Stata Prof+ Plan agreemets include a vast number of universities in all the Nordic and Baltic regions.
Governmental agencies and private persons do not receive university discount (See Stata for other users). A person with double affiliation to a university and to a governmental agency, receives university discount only if s(he) provides the university’s address as the invoice and the delivery address. This applies also to graduate students. Research institutes without a university address do not receive university discount even if some of their researchers supervise graduate students.
How does the product pricing work?
If the product has different unitary prices depending on the number of users ordered you should start ordering from user No. 1 and follow the user intervals until you reach the total amount of users desired. If you want to combine in one order different Stata editions or to order a network license expansion, please send us a quote request at info@statanordic.com.
If the product does not have any volume discount, which means that the unitary price for the product is always the same regardless the number of units you buy, just fill in the amount in the field for quantity and click buy or add to cart.

Should I buy Stata/BE, Stata/SE, or Stata/MP?
Stata/MP is the fastest and largest version of Stata. Virtually any current computer can take advantage of the advanced multiprocessing of Stata/MP. On dual-core chips, Stata/MP runs 40% faster overall and 72% faster where it matters, on the time-consuming estimation commands. With more than two cores or processors, Stata/MP is even faster.
Stata/MP, Stata/SE, and Stata/BE all run on any machine, but Stata/MP runs faster. You can purchase a Stata/MP license for up to the number of cores on your machine. For example, if your machine has eight cores, you can purchase a Stata/MP license for eight cores, four cores, or two cores.
Stata/MP can also analyze more data than any other edition of Stata. Stata/MP can analyze 10 to 20 billion observations given the current largest computers, and is ready to analyze up to 281 trillion observations once computer hardware catches up.
Stata/SE and Stata/BE differ only in the dataset size that each can analyze. Stata/SE and Stata/MP can fit models with more independent variables than Stata/BE (up to 65,532). Stata/SE can analyze up to 2 billion observations.
Stata/BE is for midsized datasets with up to 2048 variables and 2 billion observations. Stata/BE can have at most 798 right-hand-side variables in a model.
All the above editions have the same complete set of features and include PDF documentation.
Package | Max. Var. | Max. Ind. Var. | Max. Obs. |

Stata BE | 2048 | 798 | 2.14 billion* | Yes | No | Win, Mac, Unix |
*The maximum number of observations is limited only by the amount of available RAM on your system
Should I buy one Stata network license or several single user licenses?
The price is the same for purchasing N single-user licenses at the same time as for purchasing one network license for N users, but the two types of licenses differ in important ways.
What is a single-user license?
A single-user license for Stata is an identified-user license. The registered user is the only authorized user of that license.
A single-user license allows Stata to be installed in up to three locations (a computer at work, a computer at home, and a laptop) as long as the authorized user is the only one with access to the software.
Licenses are not operating-system specific. If you have a Windows computer at work and a Mac computer at home, you can install the software on both machines without any extra fees.
A single-user license may not be installed on a server and shared over a network. It must be installed on an individual machine. The smallest network (concurrent-use) license is a 2-user.
A single-user license comes with PDF documentation.
A single-user license can easily be converted to a network license should the need arise.
What is a network license?
An N-user network license is a license that allows a maximum of N concurrent users. It is a perpetual license without an expiration date. A network license is appropriate for use by machines within a single local geographic location or physical site.
The minimum size network license that may be purchased is a 2-user license.
A network license may be purchased for Stata/MP, Stata/SE, or Stata/BE.
It is not possible to combine Stata/MP, Stata/SE, and/or Stata/BE within a single network.
You can later increase the size of your network license at a reduced charge. That is, if you currently owns a 5-user network license, the cost of adding another user would be the cost of adding user number 6.
You may not add users to your network license for any previous version of Stata. In the case of new product releases, you have a grace period of six months from the release date to add users to a previous release license.
If you choose to upgrade only a portion of your network license, you forfeit all remaining users. The upgrade could apply to a edition upgrade, a release upgrade, or both.
All users of a network license have access to the PDF documentation.
How do I upgrade an existing license?
Upgrading an older version of Stata always is possible, and the price for doing so is low compared to the cost of upgrading other comparable software. Upgrading is best done in the web shop where you also find the current prices. When upgrading you must include information about the serial number(s) of your current license(s). In Stata, you find the serial number of your license by clicking on "Help - About Stata".
Are Stata's prices one-time charges or are there annual fees?
Most Stata licenses are annual but it also is possible to buy a perpetual license. When a new version of Stata is released in the future, you will get the new license from us if you have an annual license, and if you own a perpetual license you can choose whether or not to pay for upgrade. The price of upgrade is always considerably lower than new purchases.
If you prefer, you can also choose to buy maintenance for yopur perpetual license at the same time as the license.
Maintenance is an annual fee that includes future upgrades of the license. For larger workplaces there is also the possibility to lease Stata. A Stata lease is an N simultaneous-user license that expires after one year. If a new release of Stata occurs during this year, the new release is automatically sent to the lease holder at no additional charge.
With maintenance or an annual license, software expenses becomes predictable and you will always be using the latest version of Stata.
Universities also have the option of buying site licenses that allows all their faculty and/or students unlimited access to Stata. Please contact us at metrika@metrika.se for further details about Stata site licenses.
What are Stata Maintenance Plans?
If you want to always keep Stata up to date you can add a maintenance plan to your order. With a maintenance plan, for an annual fee you will always have access to the latest version of Stata. You get free upgrades to major releases whenever they are made generally available (from the purchase date to the expiration date of the contract). Maintenance charges are yearly, and maintenance may be purchased only when you buy a new license or upgrade an existing one. With maintenance plans, software expenses become predictable and you will always be using the latest version of Stata.
What is included in the documentation?
Each license comes with the software and all manuals in PDF format; all in all 35 manuals with over 18000 pages.
